Trackwest assist West Midland Safari Park on their journey to #NetZero

West Midland Safari Park required a new car park to accommodate the eight new Safari Lodges under construction.

Trackwest have been working with the West Midland Safari Park’s team and assisting them with several sustainable projects on their journey towards NetZero.

The proposed area for the new Safari Lodge carpark is located next to the access and exit roads of the park. This required traffic & pedestrian management, designated loading and unloading areas for bulk earth work plant and machinery and our tarmac delivery wagons. Following the winter break, the park reopened its doors for the school half term which meant a robust traffic and pedestrian management plan was undertaken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of West Midland Safari Park colleagues and the general public.

The soft landscaping excavations were removed by articulated dumpers for reuse in the exhibit areas surrounding the new Safari Lodges. Previous roads that had been excavated and taken up to make way for the new Safari Lodges, were taken by local company DE Talbot Transport of Stourport to be crushed and recycled into MOT Type 1 road stone. The recycled material was returned to site and reused in the carpark subbase foundations which provided a substantial 50% saving against the use of primary stone on this project.

Trackwest requested Aggregate Industries provide a Superlow Solution for our innovative asphalt material choice and used a low temperature binder and a low temperature SMAtex. The works were completed with a new pedestrian walkway and wider parking bays to create a better customer parking experience.

The sustainable carpark solution provided by Trackwest supported a 30% reduction in initial build cost and whole life cost of the car park project and a 50% reduction in carbon and greenhouse gases.
